Gauteng Government to host Child Protection Indaba The Gauteng Department of Social Development together with the Department of Justice, Home Affairs, Lawyers for Human Rights and Adoption Coalition will on Thursday, 01 June 2017 launch the two-day Provincial Child Protection Indaba at Parktonian Hotel, in Johannesburg. The indaba is tailor-made to raise awareness on the annual Child Protection Week to mobilize all sectors and communities towards the perspective of a holistic development and protection of children. "The engagement will focus on undocumented children in the province as they usually fall in the cracks. Furthermore, the Department and all roles players will discuss social development issues such as education, social security, health among others," says MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza. Gauteng Department of Education Hosts Biggest Education Indaba The Gauteng MEC for Education, Mr. Panyaza Lesufi, will in conjunction with the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, hosts the GDE Lekgotla conference,  as part of the mid-term progress assessment  from  1 to 3 June 2017 , at Birchwood Conference Centre. Various speakers from the Education sector including Universities, Business Partners, Education Portfolio Committee and SGB Associations will converge under the theme  “Enhancing the Quality of Education Provision in Gauteng” . The key objectives of the Lekgotla is to  analyse the South African Schooling System with a focus on Gauteng; and s trengthen monitoring, reporting and accountability at all levels, amongst others. The 12 June deadline for online applications for Grade 1 and 8 is fast approaching The Gauteng Department of Education once more calls on parents to apply online for Grade 1 and 8 as the deadline of 12 June is approaching. The department would like to remind parents/guardians who have not yet applied that the system will be shutdown at midnight on Monday 12 June 2017. Further, parents that have applied are reminded to submit the required documents at schools urgently. To date, a total of 229 828 applications have been processed since the start of the online applications on 2 May 2017. This translates into 125 547 applications for Grade 1 and 104 281 for Grade 8. Most of these are self-applications by parents that utilized the online system. About 45 000 parents utilized the 81 walk-in admission centers for help to apply on online. Official Opening of Sinenhlanhla Primary School The Gauteng Provincial Government officially opened the newly constructed Sinenhlanhla Primary School on Monday, 29 May 2017. This is the 49 th school since 2014 to be opened.  It is expected that the school will provide access to quality education closer to where the people reside. Further it will help change the profile of schools in the township. Sinenhlanhla Primary School is located in the Northern Development Corridor of Gauteng Region and the facility will cater for 1 200 children from Grade R to Grade 7. The school is a modern information technology enabled and falls in the mega school category.   It boasts the following facilities and features: ·          28 Smart Classrooms ·          An Administration Block ·          2 Smart Science laboratories ·          2  Smart Multi-purpose rooms ·          Multi-purpose hall. ·          1 Computer  Laboratory ·          A Library ·          Nutrition Centre

Gauteng Department of Education Opens the 46 th School since 2014 - Official Opening of Moses Kotane Primary School Gauteng Province is proud to open the 46 th school since 2014 and the 3 rd school in the Braamfisherville area since January 2017. The MEC for Education Mr Panyaza Lesufi and MEC for Infrastructure Development Mr Jacob Mamabolo will open the Moses Kotane Primary School on Friday, 19 May 2017. MEC Mamabolo will also hand over the Certificate of Occupation to MEC Lesufi. The school will cater for 1 320 learners from Grade R to Grade 7. Children in the area will no longer travel long distances and this will reduce scholar transport demand currently offered by the Gauteng Department of Education. “The provision of schools with modern facilities in townships will go a long way to improve and transform the quality of education in the townships.
