An open day at universities usually allows learners from Secondary school, especially grades 10’s and 11’s, the chance to visit universities and get career guidance. This enables learners to get to know more about the courses offered at certain universities, and allows for other to register.

Tshwane University of Technology is one of the universities that hosted its Open day on the 23rdof May 2015 on their Pretoria and Soshanguve campuses. Learners from different secondary schools attended the event so that they could be equipped with information they need to apply at the university. The schools that attended the event include Pelotona Secondary school from Mabopane and Buhlebemfundo Secondary school from Tsakane, East of Johannesburg.

Tsholofelo Rampou of Pelotona Secondary school said she attended the open day because she wants to study Public Management in 2016 at TUT. “I want to study at TUT next year so I came here to get more information about the course I want to study,” said Tsholofelo. Kesentseng Mnisi also from Polotona Secondary school said that she also wants to study at TUT which is why she attended the event. “I want to study Traffic Management so TUT is the best choice for me and their APS is reasonable so I want to apply so that in 2016 I will study here,” she said.
Thembelihle Nkosi of Buhlebemfundo secondary school said she wants to study at TUT and he was able to get all the information he needed. “I was unfortunate because I want to be a Pilot and they do not offer that course at TUT but I still want to study there and I got the chance to know about other careers,” Thembelihle said.
