Good or bad idea?

According to Radio 702 South
Africa will introduce a Chinese language called Mandarin in public schools.
I have followed the comments that were made by most people concerning this
issue, some people thinks it is a good idea that this foreign language is
introduced because South Africa and China are working together in economy so
this will help to make communication easier. So also says there are learners
who want to have their future abroad so if they learn how to speak this language
it will make things easier for them especially if they go to countries whereby
this language is spoken.
But there are always mixed
feeling about everything as other people think this is a very bad idea, I think
they also have point though considering what they are saying. This people says
learners in our country are failing to speak their own African languages so how
will they learn to speak a foreign one? We should start by mastering our own
languages before we think of learning other countries’ languages.
There
are comments that’s also make sense to me, in South Africa we are lacking in
mathematics and science yet we want to add another complicated subject. We
should be making those subject apriority to make sure that our learners know
and understand them but instead we give priority to other things that are not
going anywhere. Mandarin will always be here so as South Africans we should
focus on African issues for now and once we have dealt with such issues then we
will be able to engage to other issues especially foreign issues.
I would like to hear what you
have to say about issue. Do you think it is a good idea or you our country is
getting carried away by things that we shouldn’t be worrying ourselves with
especially in this time. If you have something to say concerning this issue,
anything please do comment below this article. Let’s have a conversation and
have your say.
